About Jack Henderson
Jack Henderson is the founder of Henderson Planning & Design Ltd, a rural planning and design consultancy built around practical experience, local knowledge, and a genuine understanding of the countryside.
Having lived in Ashby-de-la-Zouch for over 30 years, Jack has developed a strong connection to both the built and rural environment. From a young age, he worked alongside his father in the family construction business, gaining an early understanding construction methods, how projects evolve on site, and the importance of balancing practical construction knowledge with thoughtful design.
His connection to the rural sector developed at 18, when he first began working on a farm. This experience eventually led to near seven years working on a country estate on the border of North West Leicestershire and South Derbyshire. Alongside working full-time as a Rural Planning Consultant, he was also closely involved with the estate’s working farm, which operated arable, beef, sheep enterprises, as well as personal pigs.
This combination of hands-on agricultural experience and professional planning consultancy has shaped the specialist direction of the business today. Much of his work has involved supporting Farmers and Rural Landowners through Farm Diversification projects, Agricultural Permitted Development, Class Q Barn Conversions, and wider rural planning challenges. Having worked within farming businesses himself, Jack understands the practical realities behind rural projects, not just the planning policies.
Henderson Planning & Design Ltd was established to bring a more design-led approach to rural planning consultancy, combining planning strategy with architectural design and visualisation to help clients unlock the full potential of their land, buildings, and projects.
Outside of work, Jack enjoys sport and spending time outdoors with his wife and their fox-red Labrador, Stowford.
